Centre return state govt proposal on constitutional status

Tribal welfare minister Range Pegu disclosed in the assembly recently in  July 27, 2026 the central government, the Ministry of Home Affairs, have returned the proposal of Constitution status for the Mising, Radha and Tiwa autonomous councils. The MHA has sight clarification from the state government of Assam regarding the nature of proposal. The proposal doesn't specifically mentioned about Sixth Schedule that is being demanded by the tribal groups residing in the plains of Assam. The question was raised by Pabitra Radha, a BJP legislator from Goalpara.
